Preparing for Your Flooring Installation: FAQs
You’ve chosen your flooring or carpet. What’s next?
Here are some common questions and answers to guide you through the flooring installation process.
Although it varies, we can generally measure within one week of request. Once you are ready to move forward on a project, the timeline is typically 2-4 weeks for special order carpet, 2 weeks for remnant carpet, and 2-6 weeks for hard surface flooring.
Project quote will include the cost of the flooring or carpet product, any essential or optional add-ons including padding, underlayment, or baseboards; and cost of labor, which may vary pending additional work required of our installers.
The length of time required for a project installation depends on the size of the job and materials involved. A simpler project like carpeting a flight of stairs will generally only take a couple of hours. If the product includes multiple rooms, hallway, and/or stairs, it will usually take at least a day or two, depending on the size. Luxury vinyl flooring often requires between one to five days, pending demolition, and this is often true of hardwood as well. Hardwood also requires additional time for acclimation prior to the installation.
We will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimate based on the nature of your project.
We request that you remove all “common sense” items ahead of time from the space, including furniture, objects, and anything hanging low in the closets.
Floor Concepts does not empty or unplug items. Any electronics need to be removed ahead of time, bed linens need to be stripped, and anything on top of furniture, like picture frames or decor, would need to be removed as well.
Labor quotes are pending how much additional labor is required of our installers; if everything is empty and ready to go, the customer will owe less; if more furniture needs to be moved by our installers, the labor price will be higher. Floor Concepts does not move grand or baby grand pianos, pool tables, or Sleep Number beds.
Additional fees may vary based on the project. For carpet projects, the customer may owe for the carpet pad and disposal of existing flooring. For hard surface projects, disposal of the existing flooring may be needed, as well as plywood to build up the flooring height, and glue if needed for hardwood or LVT. Shoe molds and baseboards are optional add-ons.
Absolutely. Floor Concepts does not require our installers to install your floor. We do recommend that you make sure your contractor is suitable for the job per the manufacturer recommendations. All LVT and hardwood products come with directions on how to properly install their flooring.
Hardwood generally needs 48-72 hours to acclimate in advance of installation; check manufacturer guidelines for more specific details. Vinyl does not need to acclimate to the home. When installing any floors, the house should be set to an appropriate temperature.
It’s typical for carpet to have a “new smell” right after installation. It may be helpful to open the windows for a couple hours during and after the work is completed to alleviate any smell of offgassing from the carpet.
All products sold by Floor Concepts come with manufacturer warranties. If there is a product claim, Floor Concepts would file all paperwork and work with the manufacturer directly to solve the problem at hopefully minimal to no cost to the consumer.
Floor Concepts also has a one-year labor warranty on any and all work done by our installers.
